History Of Hot Rodding - Water Colour Artwork

Water Colour Viking History Of Hot Rodding - NORSE POWER
Dave deal in the early 1980s contributed a comic to Car-toons magazine on The History Of Hot Rodding, from the Roman till Modern times.  He rarely contributed comics, more usually doing cover artwork, and this particular comic was more illustrations with text, than an actual comic.

I really like the history idea and tried a few History of Cool Stuff Videos on our Youtube channel, and have come back to do a few one off water colour works on the idea now.  This is the first on the Vikings contributions to the art form.

Showing our version of a Cartoon Viking Dragon boat, with the addition of a Supercharged Hemi V8 instead of sails. A main point of the work is the wonderful water that can be achieved with water colours.

Or the Gentle art of the Siege.....

Ed Roth and the Beatnik Bandit

And don't forget Ed "BIG DADDY" Roth and his Beatnik Bandit. This guy  invented the show car custom and t-shirt car art! What isn't there to love?!

We usually do commercial Digital/Vector Illustrations for sign-age, websites and business use but one off illustrations in traditional media have their uses too.

Our Water Colour Toolset

These are done with a small Cotman water colour set, that has had the "China White" , replaced with an "Ivory Black", on textured water colour paper and water proof  Faber-Castell PITT artist pens.

And customizable shirt variations of these and others are now available at out online store

Car Concept Art - Street Machines & Customs

This is a 1967 blown Ford XR in Bronze with low profile tires. Very unlike how you would do it in 1967. The car hasn't been built yet, and this will help the builder decide on the direction the will go in.

One of the things Chip Foose is known for is his concept art. The idea on paper before the shop begins work at Overhaulin'.  But way before him there was Hot Wheels, Ed Roth and Tom Daniel in the 60s and 70s. Roth and Daniel had model kits of their machines available to any young man lusting over fine automotive awesome coolness.  Here is something in that 1970s  1/24th Model Box style I did previously. Southern California Custom Cool.

I'm thinking of talking about these influential designers and a few other things in our next Podcast. I had Hot Wheels and the Tom Daniel Model Hot Rods and drew thousands of my own when I was younger. A major passion from maybe 1968 till 1974....

Original 1969 Tom Daniel Sand Crab Box with built up car
I thought I was going to be some type of car designer before I was told in no uncertain terms no one actually did that in Australia in the 1970s, and so took up electronics focused on audio instead as a more secure future.  (Funny how there isn't any Audio electronics design here in 2015, but people do make custom cars!)

We have a lot of concept art stuff, but it is mostly of real industrial boxes and products we have been involved with. Most of the Concept Art on our website is Sci-Fi styled things. Design sketches in cool grey dry markers mostly.  Hopefully this car artwork will adjust the balance.

The line work in this was done in Corel Draw and the rendering was done in Photoshop. It is 300dpi A3 size.  It is based on reference photos of the base car, available rims and an engine style I had been sent.

It is in Car Concept Art style.

Abby Sciuto & '32 Ford Deuce - NCIS Vector Design

Abby Sciuto  & '32 Ford Deuce - NCIS
This combines several cool things into a single vector cartoon caricature illustration.  TV's favourite tattooed Scientist, Goth and Metal Head, Abby Sciuto, and her 1932 Ford Deuce Hot Rod.  Just love that MINISTRY remix of the NCIS theme.

It is all fiction, but a very interesting part of NCIS's producer playing against type.

This is a sample of a more realistic cartoon person with car, but still done as a vector illustration.

More info at our website, Art & Technology.

Bumper Sticker Design 10" x 3"

Bumper Sticker Applied to a Windshield
A 10 x 3 inch bumper sticker design for our Band Megacurve, featuring a modern hot rod flame pattern.  Also features music site Soundcloud url.

The design in CorelDraw

We used Cafepress for this stickers production, but have also used the  Zazzles 11" x3" stickers. The Cafepress stickers are thicker and UV safe, so the image doesn't fade.  The Zazzle sticker is thinner and fades.

This is a vector based design, contact us about your graphics design requirements.
